Prime Minister G.Zandanshatar visited the construction site of Mongolia’s oil refinery project located in Altanshiree soum, Dornogovi Province. The project, launched in 2018, is being implemented with $1.7 billion in financing from the Government of India and has now reached 50 percent completion.

Once operational, the refinery is expected to meet 50 to 100 percent of Mongolia’s domestic fuel demand and create around 1,500 new jobs. Its projected annual capacity includes:

  • 1.5 million tons of crude oil processed per year
  • 834,000 tons of Euro V standard diesel fuel
  • 396,000 tons of 95-octane gasoline
  • 80,000 tons of Jet A1 aviation fuel
  • 27,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)
  • 17,000 tons of furnace fuel

When completed, the refinery will significantly reduce Mongolia’s dependence on imported petroleum products and strengthen the country’s energy security.
